Academic Studies (Academic Studies)

Program Overview

This program is designed to prepare students for the Adult High School Diploma (AHSD). Students will acquire knowledge in various subjects such as English, Mathematics, French Second Language, Social Studies, Science and Natural Sciences. The courses of the Academic Studies program are equivalent to those of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. Once the courses are completed, exams in English, in Mathematics, and in Sciences must be written. These exams are administered by the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour, Certification Division. In order to receive an Adult High School Diploma, six compulsory courses and three optional courses must be completed. Once the program requirements are met, and the AHSD is delivered, training may be pursued in a postsecondary institution.

Admission Requirements

Profile M
  • Have completed grade 8 or equivalent, and
  • Be 18 years of age, or turn 18 within registration year, and
  • Be out of the public school system at least one year
Details related to admissions:
  1. Any transcript containing adapted level or “Programme de compétences essentielles au marché du travail (PCEMT) ” courses will be subject to additional assessment.
  2. Applications from individuals 21 years or older who do not have a high school diploma will be subject to additional assessment.
  3. An individual who has completed mathematics courses prior to the new mathematics paths A, B, and C, should consult the on-line counsellor in order to determine eligibility toward the chosen program.
  4. The “Programme de compétences essentielles (PCE)” is a specific high school path which prepares the student for enrollment in one or several pre-established programs leading to one or more trades.
  5. The application of an individual who has obtained a high school diploma with courses from the “PCE”, and who wishes to change to another field of training, will be subject to an additional assessment.

Additional Information

  • Courses may vary from campus to campus, depending on the demand.
  • Depending on the course and the delivery campus, courses are offered in stand-up classes or in an individualized setting, on a full or part-time basis. A ranking test may be administered prior to training.
